Carpet Dyeing Process.

A carpet not only enhances the beauty of your floor but also that of your house. It is critical that your carpet looks good as it is one of the first things guests will note when they come to your home. If your carpet is stained or discoloured, then you might consider carpet dyeing to restore its original beauty.

Before dyeing a carpet, consider the following.

  • Age. Reasonably new carpets that have stained or discoloured due to various reasons can be dyed. If your carpet is old and worn out, then replacement may be a better option.
  • Quality of the carpet. Dyeing works best on good quality carpets. Poor quality carpets have weak fibres that do not react well with the dyes.
  • Size of the carpet. You may want to dye the whole carpet or just a small area. While you can dye small patches yourself, it is better to engage professionals when dyeing the entire carpet as you do not want anything to go wrong.

The dyeing process aims to restore the original colour or to change the carpet's colour. Consult with the professional on what colours the carpet can be changed to. For example, it may not be possible to change the colour to a lighter shade. Other times, the new colour must be within the same colour family as the old colour.

The carpet dyeing process requires a lot of caution and expertise. The following are steps followed when dyeing carpets.

  1. The carpet is thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt. Some substances negatively affect the dyeing process hence you might not get the intended shade if they are not removed. The process is also essential as it equalises the pH of the carpet.
  2. Stain-resistant substances, acid dye blockers and the Teflon protector are removed.
  3. The professional tests the carpet to verify that the intended dye will work.
  4. The carpet is dyed to restore its original colour or a new colour. Patterns can also be added to enhance the carpet's beauty.
  5. The Teflon protector and acid dye blockers are applied. The acid dye blocker is a clear dye that prevents foreign dyes from getting into the carpet. The Teflon protector repels substances spilled on the rug hence making it easier to clean the carpet.

Carpet dyeing is a good way to restore your carpet's beauty. It is critical that you consult with a professional to help you decide if the intended works are possible.
